It was in last November 2011 that I started weighing all my produce from the backyard. What a year it has been!
The food growing area roughly measures 50 sq. m. in total and from that space I was able to produce 216.614 kilos of food in addition to 846 eggs.
Th food chart illustrates the type of fruits and vegetables produced. I also experimented with some heritage varieties, which to my amazement are very hardy and most prolific producers.
I haven't installed the bees yet. That will be the next project. But the rainwater tanks are up and running.
This food weighing is also part of my research for my master's programme at RMIT. If anyone wold like to participate or find out more, please email me at: [email protected]
Happy Christmas everyone and may your table be laden with seasonal local produce, or better still, produce from your own backyard. :)
