Getting closer to the dream everyday

Project: Chaitraban

Posted by Jyoti Deshpande almost 12 years ago

Our journey of just over a year has been rewarding!

It has been a long and pleasurable journey, growing with Chaitraban. From the arid (but at the same time, fascinating) land that it was, Chaitraban has flourished into a retreat providing a peaceful ambience while feeding us with chemical free and delicious bounty of fruits and vegetables! Permaculture is teaching me how to work with nature rather than against it and I have mostly left the land to itself after the initial hardscaping and the basic plantations. It has worked wonders and mother nature has blessed us with birds, small animals, insects and the small pond is teeming with frogs, small fish and water lilies...

It is a long journey ahead and we are looking forward to learning more and more every day. Nature never fails to fascinate and the more i learn the more i am enchanted! I look forward to helping nature rejuvenate and restore the lovely land by using some of the techniques of Permaculture that I continue to learn and leave the rest to HIM :-)

Here are some pics over the last year

1. Land in the monsoon when we bought it in 2010

2. Permaculture beds built last year

3. This year the area is green (a bit messy but with lot more birds/insects/animals)

4. The house when built last year

5. The house today

6. New veggie bed close up

7. Veggie bed growing fenugreek seeds for my kitchen

8. The experiment with sheet mulching (not a single pest!!!)- cabbage and carrots

9. The new beds for sheet mulching

10. Other harscaping on the farm

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
