BEEN THERE DONE THAT
I’ve been a fringe Permaculture practitioner since its inception in the 1970s and believe the time is right to take my passion to the next level.
Always dissatisfied with the status-quo and with the hindsight of time I’ve developed a credo for a purposeful life:
~ Engage your passions and you’ll find your niche.
~ Even if you march to a different drummer eventually you’ll get your band together.
MY PASSIONS
1. Sustainable Lifestyle:
recycling ~ living simply with nature ~ all things Permaculture
2. Great Outdoors:
attending to farm and flock ~ goat herding / bushwalking ~ gardening
3. Heritage:
community history ~ family history ~ restoration of my circa 1895 homestead.
THE JOURNEY
In 2008 I established Ecosustain to address the imbalance in our environment by developing a program for the regeneration of our ECO-system for a SUSTAIN-able future.
I began an informal education program for myself but learnt that many environmental practices for ‘saving and sustaining’ our ecosystem included the use of chemicals or other practices (e.g. burning) which are in my opinion counter-productive.
In 2010 I furthered my program by purchasing Wyalong Farm on 61Ha alongside the Loddon River in Capels Crossing on the Northern tip of the North Central Victoria Catchment Management Region of Victoria Australia with the aim to develop a best farming practice: effective, efficient and contributing to global well-being.
A pathway opened upon my research into what others have been doing. I found the work of a variety of both local and world leaders who are trail-blazing in various natural and ethical farming and lifestyle practices.
The journey has led me to the work of Geoff Lawton and the Permaculture Research Institute (PRI). I especially appreciate that Geoff embraces and includes in his teachings the work of his peer exponents of natural farming and lifestyle.
I have recently undertaken the 2014 Geoff Lawton Online Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course not only for my own satisfaction and to add to my credentials but as an adjunct for following the Memorandum of Understanding for becoming a Permaculture Research Institute 'Master Plan' site with the goal to establish an accredited Permaculture Demonstration and Education Centre on Wyalong Farm. The site will focus on dry land / mediterranean / cool temperate climate and small to broad acre landscape.
WHERE TO
My research as well as my participation in the PDC course have convinced me that Permaculture is the best farming practice and that I have found the way to engage my passions for the benefit of global wellbeing and to provide for succession beyond my lifetime.
Wyalong Farm Permaculture Demonstration and Education Centre will be developed (as a Not for Profit) in a series of Projects via participatory Workshops whilst valuing the intrinsic worth of all living organisms and following the Permaculture Ethics of
Care of the Earth ~ Care of People ~ Return of Surplus
A day long workshop / showcase event with evening screening of Fair Food the Documentary. To be held on Sunday 3rd May 2015 at Ceres Environment Park in Brunswick, Melbourne as a part of International Permaculture Day in the International Year of SOILS
