Collective Farming Initiative. The project and quest started in 2009 with the ideas and dreams of manifesting: A self-sustaining community farm that provides energy and food security into the future. It’s own pure water source year round. Neither commercially farmed nor surrounded by commercial farms whose use of chemical may affect us. A place for learning, studying, (self-) actualizing and community that pledges itself to share technology and ‘how to’s’ with the community at large. A retreat centre for yoga, sustainability practices (building houses, wind energy, solar energy, waterless toilets, etc.), able to cater for groups of 25 people or more or less as well as space for single retreats.
Farm is 93 hectares of hills and valleys, 7 hectares of which is arable and a futher 10ha marginal terraces, with an eastern aspect under irrigation from gravity feed and sub-surface sources.
The farm has a 3 bed, 3 bath house and a dilapidated but beautifully positioned cottage.
Plans are being submitted for an additional 08 staff/community cottages and support intrastate for planning permission.
The farm had approximately 20 fruit trees, mainly figs and lemons at the start of the project in 2010. Currently a Zone 2 Intensive Food Forest system has been implemented with more then 70 additional fruit and nuts trees and a 100 pioneers tree windbreak system. Included is are broadscale staple and small animals systems.
Future plans include an extensive food forest in 2011/12, development of a Keyline Farming systems, utilizing Holistic Management guidelines in creation of a mixed Alley Cropping and Pasture Cropping Permaculture.
A healthy slice of pasture raised chooks after grass-fed
dairy/beef with integration of draft horses, woodland porkers, aquaculture and
apiculture in broad-scale re-forested systems adjoining

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.
MemberA member is a permaculturist who has never taken a PDC course. These cannot become PDC teachers. Members may be novice or highly experienced permaculturists or anywhere in between. Watch their updates for evaluation. |

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
