(projects i'm involved in)
Permaculture is my life... I have been applying permaculture principles in my life in a wide range of situations and circumstances since encountering the concept after Varsity in 1993.... I co-founded Gardens for Africa in the middle 90's, a peri-urban intensive permaculture model system that acted as a genetic reserve, training environment and resource base for promoting Permaculture in the Kwa-Zulu Natal region of South Africa.
In 1999 I founded the Klien Karoo Sustainable Drylands Permaculture Project (KKSDPP) on the Farm Berg-en-Dal in the Swartberg Mountains of the Western Cape, a semi arid environment of stunning biodiversity. The KKSDPP is a ecovillage model that serves as a training environment for a wide range of permaculture related disciplines and practices that is managed by its resident community of dedicated Permi's. The project is a base from where I co-facilitate bi-annual Dryland PDC's, a permaculture internship program as well as running a intro course in applied permaculture, with my colleague Alex Kruger. Together we formed Permaculture Education Africa in 2005, a organization specializing in Permaculture Facilitation, Project Management and Design Consulting. I have been facilitating PDC's in a range of environments since 2003.
My main areas of focus are facilitating permaculture related workshops, a managing the land-use affairs of the KKSDPP and running a permaculture design and implementation consultancy. I have undertaken a wide range of design projects ranging from Eco-villages, farms, urban/suburban residential, community gardens, education and training environments, etc... I also run eco-village design workshops as a design process as well as smaller scale community design project workshops...
I have just began a new project in Cape Town, the Evergreen Urban Permaculture Center, a urban residential permaculture model, to be used as a inspiration generator, consulting base, training center, networking and support point for a wide range of urban permaculture applications appropriate to the circumstances of the Cape Peninsula region.
