About Alana Bliss

I grew up in Minnesota between the twin cities or Minneapolis/St. Paul and the north shores of the boundary waters. I have always had a deep love for the earth and all her inhabitants, and felt a calling to help "right the wrongs" that our species have been inflicting on our environment and each other. Although, I was called to make a difference at a young age, I wasn't sure where to begin. So I focused on understanding the cause for our human suffering and why we chose to disconnect from our earth. After the birth of my 1st son, I found permaculture and now live on a budding intentional community and permaculture model in Costa Rica.

As soon as I learned about permaculture, I knew I needed to learn more. I had started college for environmental studies, but didn't find what I was looking for as far as solutions for current issues. I took my PDC at ECOSA Institute in Prescott Arizona and was thrilled. I chose that program because it was a month long and I felt I needed more than the standard 2 week course. I developed a great connection with the teacher and felt a deep support in the process. I returned to my home in Minnesota and began simple implementations, but I found restrictions, legal as well as climatic. I had always dreamed of living somewhere with a year round growing season and on an intentional community. So, after my first husband died, I mourned him, healed, and met my present husband, we bought a diesel school bus rv, converted to run on waste veggie oil, and drove south. We eventually found our farm and we live here now. Once we were grounded I returned to the US to do my Permaculture Teacher's Training in Corvallis, Oregon with Cascadia Permaculture.

Finca Fruicion was born from the fruition of our efforts, and we have been blessed with our first community member, Desiree Wells, a permaculture teacher with 10 years experience in Costa Rican jungle permaculture. Together, we are establishing a model for practical permaculture that we can share with the locals to assist them in transforming the current cows and coffee paradigm to a more forest-oriented design. We are also setting up the infrastructure for an intentional community of those interested in being living examples of a sustainable lifestyle. We have set up a grass roots infrastructure to host volunteers, permaculture interns and apprentices. We welcome those interested. We are also interested in setting up a school for youth to learn cooperative oriented, solution based ways of life.
