Hamish MacCallum first discovered permaculture when he studied horticulture in the mid 90’s, leading him to develop a 50acre property under permaculture principles growing commercial herbs in central Victoria. He later moved to Hepburn Springs to live with David Holmgren and Su Dennet for seven months in what was to be an informal internship before moving to Castlemaine to start his business in permaculture design and construction. During this time he began teaching permaculture with David Holmgren, Ian Lillington, Beck Lowe and others.

Hamish fell in love with the Fryers forest community, a permaculture designed eco-village originally developed by David Holmgren and Su Dennet, where he resides with his family today. His business, Meridian Permaculture is run alongside his partner Jika Mills and together they design and consult extensively in the central Victorian region.

Hamish holds a diploma in permaculture and is undertaking a postgraduate certificate in education at Victoria University, where he also lectures in outdoor education.

Hamish has designed well over 100 properties including school kitchen gardens, farms, commercial properties and urban gardens. He is currently working on the Rocklyn Yoga PDC, a complementary blend of Permaculture and yoga taught with David Holmgren and Ian Lillington in the rich permaculture surrounds of Daylesford, Victoria.
