(projects i'm involved in)
I, like many people first became interested in Permaculture after viewing the video "Greening the Desert". Shortly after this, I attended a lecture where Rob Avis, with Verge Permaculture and Geoff Lawton were Skyped in from Australia - and from that moment on, I was sold.
I left a career in the oil and gas sector and set my course on obtaining my certification in Permaculture. Immediately following my PDC program, I traveled to the Middle East to attend the 10th biennial International Permaculture Conference and Convergence held in Jordan in the fall of 2011, and what an experience that was with keynote speakers like Bill Mollison, Geoff Lawton, Brad Lancaster...the list goes on.
This past summer I had the good fortune of attending a soil microbiology workshop with Doug Weatherbee (the soil Doctor) with the soil foodweb and was simply blown away with the knowledge and information he shared - an amazing experience!
Upon my return from the middle east I traveled to California to explore what Permaculture initiatives were taking place in that state and I met a lot of wonderful people who were pretty pumped about Permaculture and what it means to our society and our communities. I conducted a number of assessments both rural and urban and gained more experience with swales and water harvesting systems.
I have formed my own Permaculture company and called it Genesi(Genesis for new beginnings and rebirth). Currently, I am designing Food Forests for urban and rural properties in and around Alberta. I was recently invited to build a Permaculture Garden and Food Forest on the Ermineskin Cree Nation located in central Alberta - what an amazing experience this was both professionally and culturally.
Fall of 2012 I will teach my first Introduction to Permaculture with two locations scheduled; one in Athabasca and the other in Peace River.
Over the winter I look forward to hitting the road with a lecture series to talk about rainwater harvesting, transforming lawns into gardens and food forests and regenerative design and community building.
This year we will be offering a two week Intensive Permaculture Design Courses in Alberta, Canada
Genesis Permaculture will be hosting Doug Weatherbee this summer in Edmonton Alberta for 4 Days of Dirty Tricks
Follow along as my fellow Alberta Permies and I help to grow the Permaculture revolution in Canada. http://soilsista.blogspot.ca/
