Kenton is a permaculture designer, consultant and educator. Kentons vision and calling as an educator revolves around being a catalyst for positive change, empowering others to repair degraded landscapes, grow food and build community.
For two years Kenton worked across Australia and then across Canada doing what could be called a "permaculture pilgrimage." While in Australia Kenton worked with some some of the leading advocates of permaculture including Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton. He worked with PRI Australia, PRI Sunshine Coast and Milkwood Permaculture while in Australia and then in Canada worked with Verge Permaculture, the University of Alberta and served as a school speaker.
Before Kenton encountered permaculture he had already made education his passion and purpose. However, after taking a university course on the History of Curriculum Kenton was left questioning the very educational system he represented. Were we preparing the next generation for tomorrow? Soon after that he came across and registered for a PDC with Rob Avis, a student of Geoff Lawtons. After the PDC Kenton started a permaculture club at his High School. The experience was a good one but it didn't even scrape the surface for the level of impact Kenton knew he could potentially have. As soon as his teaching contract was over he flew to Australia to do a 10 week internship with Geoff Lawton. This later lead to working with Geoff creating and implementing permaculture teaching materials and a myriad of other amazing opportunities.
Kenton is currently pursuing his permaculture career in two ways. Currently he working in Edmonton, Alberta, facilitating permaculture workshops and courses. However, he is also a part of a quickly developing Permaculture Research Institute project in Barbados where he will be employed for 3 years as a PRI teacher.
Kenton's aspirations is to to reach more and more people eventually "mulching" himself by teaching teachers. Then he will semi-retire from teaching and build a simple house appropriate for his climate, a food forest and a community.
At the forefront of the new generation of Permaculture teachers, Kenton is working on the edge of what peace and harmony can look like for individuals and for communities living WITH the land they are a part of.
