My name is Jye Dawes
I am currently situated in the Northern rivers area of Australia, where I have been doing Permaculture consultancy, organic farm and nursery work for the last 3 years. I wish to now head overseas, to do some aid work in South-East Asia and put my knowledge and experience to good use.
I came across permaculture in my late teenage years. It was love at first site, it combined my passion for vegetable gardening and pull to make positive change in the world. At that moment, I knew what I wanted to be.
In the years following I studied horticulture in Sydney where I learnt the technicalities behind nursery management, arboriculture, botany, soils etc. I then went on to unlearn most of that knowledge with the help of Geoff Lawtons PDC at Zatuna farm. Geoffs PDC gave me to legs and the confidence to go off and actually do Permaculture.
I later came back to Zatuna farm to work as the nursery manager and experiment with some of the ideas I had of combining ecosystem mimicry and nursery management with surprising results. I later published some of my research.

I see Permaculture as a means of empowering people to rise above most of their environmental and social challenges. I am now at a place where I feel confident to travel, consult, work and teach permaculture overseas.
