strawbalehouse at folxgarden

Posted by harald wedig almost 13 years ago

our house is still under construction, we are building it mortgagefree, that means bit by bit.

We build our house low cost, with wood, strawbales, loam, cordwood and a lot of recycled materials. Its building did cost about half as much as a usual home of its size and it shows an  extraordinary insulation and passive solar performance.

With  solar energy panels on the roof we alredy produce about 7000 KW/h per year, 7 time as much as we will need for ourselves. Doing so, we are part in the national effort of getting away from nuke power use within the next decade.

The house will  be heated with warm air, harvested in the attached greenhouse and in vertical solar warm air collectors on the south oriented wall. The air will warm up hypocaust benches.

It is the core of our project design and it will be also home of a gang of chicken, millions of worms, bats, bees an 2-3 homo sapiens sapiens.

Chicken and worms will live in the attached greenhouse along with veggies and shii take  and oister mushrooms. We´ll keep the chicken for their eggs and their labour ( pest control, tilling the raised beds, producing manure and being macrodestruents for the garden and kitchen waste we feed them on.

Since our garden ist very small ( 350m²) our zone 5 is going to be under our roof.

We will offer this space especially to bats.
