Salam (Peace) from Palestine! 

The Marda Permaculture Farm is a working farm and a demonstration site for permaculture principles, techniques and strategies in Palestine. Based in the picturesque ancient village of Marda, the project promotes food sovereignty, health, self-reliance and empowerment.  This is accomplished through modeling water harvesting, recycling, energy conservation and home-scale garden production with readily available and locally-appropriate materials.

The Farm is a model of sustainable development and self-sufficiency for the whole of Palestine and to build connections with permaculture projects regionally and internationally. It is the vision of the farm to provide Palestinians with a demonstration site to revive traditional knowledge and practices in farming, sustainable living and community building.  

Palestine has been undergoing a vicious alienation and dispossession of its people from their land, resources and traditional livelihoods by the Israeli occupation and its practices. Today, we are working on building a strong local movement to strengthen local economy, enhance resilience of our farming communities and reach self sufficiency and dependency to achieve sovereignty and sustainability of our communities.

One of our main outreach activities is conducting the international Permaculture Design Course (PDC), accomplished through a 2-weeks permaculture theoretical and practical training for Palestinian women, men, and farmers—as well as international students, interns and apprentices. The upcoming course will take place from the 25th of September to the 9th of October 2013.  

The funding will go to cover the expenses of 7 Palestinian studentsn, who cannot cover the course expenses but are very enthusiastic and committed to building resilience in Palestine. Our farm and vision is strengthened by local students attending and continuing their work in the field of farming and sustainable agriculture. We are building a pool of local expertise and knowledge to enhance our cause for a just and sustainable world for all. 

We are grateful for you contribution and our farm has bounties to offer to send a warm thank you for believing in our cause. Olive oil, organic soap and honey from Palestine is our small thank you for your generous support, with an open invitation to visit us in the Marda Permaculture Farm and Palestine anytime. Even if we don't reach our goal of funding for 7 students, we will use what you offer to engage as many students as possible in the course.
