I have spent 20 years in a university academic career. Prior to that, I worked for a private mapping firm and was involved in various field projects as part of the US National Wetlands Inventory, a project of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
I have been an avid food gardener for many years, and got involved in permaculture by doing a PDC with Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2008. I did a second PDC with André Soares and Lucy Legan in Pirenopolis, Brazil, at IPEC (Instituto de Permacultura e Ecovilas do Cerrado) in July 2009.
In the recent past, I have collaborated with other local permaculturists in offering ‘town talks’, a weekend workshop on Permaculture, and an All-Seasons Permaculture Design Course. This year (2013), I began teaching an online version of the PDC for students who may be place-bound or have other restrictions that prevent them from taking a traditional PDC. My most recent international project involves collaborating with the ICPPC-Ecocentre in Stryszów, Poland.
We've planted more than 250 trees and shrubs this spring at Glacial Lakes Permaculture.
