Terraforming for the Food Forest

Posted by C Emory Richey over 10 years ago

I'm currently shaping the ground with berms, swales, and soaking plots to get ready for this year's forest planting.

Just wanted to inform everyone that right now I'm terraforming the earth on this year's planting area.  I have already plowed the area a few times to kill back all the existing grasses and weeds so that I am starting with a blank slate for planting.  Now that that is accomplished, I have marked the contours of the land and placed berms and swales on them.  On the flat parts I am making soaking plots.  I'm also building in a small pond.

When I am finished with this step I'll be putting in the drip irrigation system and will be ready to plant.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Best,

emory
