My passions for nature came at an early age in South Africa where I engaged with the savannah wildlife of my uncle’s safari game reserve. I am passionate about bushfood, hunting, spear fishing, bird watching, cooking, communal living and hiking.
I started getting interested in Permaculture when I began growing most of my own vegetables on a suburban block in Perth, Western Australia. I was working as a restaurant manager and started to see how much waste western society produces and how dangerous so much of our food is.
I have been raising animals for as long as I can remember from snakes, frogs and mice when I was just seven; to chickens, duck, sheep, cattle, worms, black soldier fly larvae and pigs in recent times.
Permaculture has been the philosophy and toolbox to bring all my passions and skills together in the last 3 years. I have successfully implemented two swale and Keyline systems on small acreage and have been setting up a demonstration site in Tasmania that has included a market garden, gravity irrigation systems, orchards, animal tractors, cell grazing and alternative buildings.
I dream of setting up and living on a small ecovillage with 20 - 40 people in a way that develops community, resilience and a deep connection with nature.
