I have a background in environmental engineering and education for sustainability.
After some years practising and teaching permaculture, it seemed to me that permaculture can be somewhat "sketchy" when it comes to farming and larger landscape planning. Looking for something to fill the gap, I trained in terraquaculture with Haikai Tane and subsequently travelled to China to study traditional terraquaculture farming systems there.
Terraquaculture is now a core part of my permaculture practise and teaching, particularly in the areas of a design process, water, and farming.
We have trialled terraquaculture approaches on our small farm, and are now doing the same in our new suburban watershed.
