Acting from experiences in Real Estate Brokerage & commercial food service & a University education in sustainable development, my perspectives on Permaculture have been greatly influenced with sustainable food systems as objective & lens. Coming to include community development, natural/energy efficient building & regenerative Urban Food Projects as design tools. I'm working to create more sustainable food systems & community resilience by highlighting the necessity of well developed regional food sheds & a strong local economy as baseline for resilience & land development.
Having lived in the Pacific NorthWest, the dry side of the Columbia Gorge, the Canadian Rockies & now where I grew up in temperate Nashville,Tennessee, My present emphasis include creating the conditions for productive micro-climates in arid landscapes, food in our built environment & natural building. (Working & designing from the extremes of broad acre arid landscapes & within urban micro-climates I've observed many similarities & stark differences to apply to design & have come to concentrate on the education of clients establishing true sustainability in a complex system best understood by those on site.)
I'm very interested in creating closed loop vertically integrated food production systems serving urban centers & well utilized micro-climates supporting "COMMUNITIES AS GARDENS"! Creating the conditions for scalable growth & neighborhood resilience.
Making only the most of our harvest seasons,
- B. Santifer R.
