(projects i'm following)
Other than Permaculture, my primary passions are sailing and yoga--my perfect triad is Sailing ~ Yoga ~ Gardening. As one who is easily distracted by shiny objects and ("oh look! kittens!"), I also follow my passions where they lead, which means I start new projects and even businesses if the project looks good enough...a lot.
Current projects are "WeGrowFromHere.com" which is a registered non-profit in the state of Florida, and which has now spawned "Casa Seranita", a food forest/demonstration garden and learning & wellness center. Newest on this list is also "Durty Gurl" composting service.
All of this began back in the '70s when my dad tried organic farming during that recession--for me, permaculture was my philosophy long before the term was coined, and I am so grateful it was!
The OFFICIAL BIO:
Loretta "holds space for transformation and cultivates inspiration", beginning as an organic farmer in the late 1970's, morphing into what is now known as "Permaculture", or Permanent Culture—a term coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren..
The Process
In 2009, like many in the current economy, she began a journey of hope in an attempt to get a better perspective on the future of life, the earth, and her human inhabitants. This journey led through yoga teacher training, to founding the non-profit community garden project "We Grow From Here, Inc." in 2010, to creating "Casa Seranita", an educational center and demonstration foodscape in 2013.
The Journey
Having now completed two PDCs (Permaculture Design Courses) and numerous other sustainable education and design courses, including "Designing Educational Ecosystems" (a permaculture teacher training) with Dave Jacke in 2014, she is now focusing on creating quality, creative education systems. The mission: to cultivate an understanding of the intricate systems of nature, so that we can all be at peace.
The Practice
Practicing Social Permaculture represents permaculture principles in action, and to that end, Loretta has volunteered to help organize two Florida Permaculture Convergences, the North American Permaculture Convergence, and is on the team for IPCC 2017 (the International Permaculture Congress Convergence), which will take place in Hyderabad, India.
Workshops are scheduled on Meetup in Florida and North Carolina Read and see more on her blog: WeGrowFromHere and Facebook: Real World Permaculture, Casa Seranita, Ollie’s Heartland, We Grow From Here
"Redesign Your Life" is a primarily Suburban PDC--aimed at re-connecting white-collar folks with the land. ROOT CAMP is our first collaborative teacher training, taking place in Denton Texas May, 2015.
"Design Your Home Foodscape" and a series of Intro to Permaculture classes and myriad workshops has now morphed into our first certificate course!
