Hot Compost Pile turning waste into good soil

Posted by Dr. Murat ONUK over 8 years ago

I made hot compost pile at Reiki Serenity Valley by the end of October 2015. It is based on Berkeley method and will become a good soil by the mid of October. We used the waste of ca. 60 people who stayed at the Valley for more than 10 days. Two straw bales, two barrel of wet cow manure, four big bag of cut grass, four big bag of wood chips, four big bag of food waste were put together and sprinkled with water. At the morning of the second day the temperature of the pile was already above 45 degrees Celcius. Mr. Huseyin, keeper of the Valley helped me during the processes. My wife and other colleagues from the Foundation were very active cutting the wood chips with the wood chip machine... Knowing that your waste will return back and become healthy soil again is a big joy...

John Lee : When you say waste of 60 people, do you mean actual human waste or just food scraps etc. from the 10 days?
