I did a workshop on Strawbale House Building in South Dakota in 2010 and that was the first time I learned about Permaculture and Transition Towns. It was nothing new to me though (Is there anything that makes more sense than permaculture? Isn't it just all totally logical?) because I was already trying to leave a small footprint (cotton daipers etc), I just didn't know how to label it. Also the need to keep bare ground covered was something I was already both practising and preaching. If only to keep cats out of the garden.
In 2013 I got a grant to do a PDC and decided to take it in the UK. Because we started a Permaculture Garden in feb 2013 in Arnhem, we felt the need to have a least one certificate amongst us.
Besides this PermaGarden I'm also involved in Urban Gardening Projects and busy organizing Repair Café Arnhem. Right now I'm about to start the Diploma Pathway but that's very easy to postpone.
