"Teaching Permaculture Teachers" Crowdfunding Campaign...We Did It!

Posted by Alfred Decker about 5 years ago

Dear supporters,

On behalf of the Teaching Permaculture Teachers team, we wanted to express our deepest thanks for all the different ways you made this campaign a success. In addition to the funds for creating the digital platform, we raised approximately $5,000 for Rowe’s work in the Solomon Islands. Words are not enough.

This campaign overcame a big hurdle. In other permaculture crowdfunding campaigns similar to this one, the objective of the campaign is often to create a product that will be eventually be sold after the campaign succeeds in raising the necessary funds. Thus, there is an easy rationale for potential donors: “ah, if I make a donation now, I will not only be supporting a worthy cause, but I will be able to get the product as a reward for much cheaper than when it is sold commercially afterwards.” However, in this campaign, the “product” is information that will be shared freely after it is edited and produced.

It was not at all sure that at this point in history, at this moment of transition and paradigm shift, that people would financially support products to be licensed under Creative Commons. However, you all proved that the transition is in progress and is indeed a viable way of making things happen. Cheers for putting into practice the second and third principles of permaculture: People Care and Fair Share (surplus to need).

We will be in touch about the rewards in the coming weeks with everyone who donated, and then afterwards, when the platform goes online. In line with ethical permaculture practices, we will be as transparent as possible and towards this we will provide a way for donors to follow as the activities are achieved, the funds used, and the time is used to complete the work to good standards. On the Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute website <http://www.bluemountainspermacultureinstitute.com.au>, you can follow the story of the Solomon Island village and how a permaculture project grows and becomes effective in responding to people and their needs, and how outside inputs are also necessary.

Onwards, with gratitude and inspiration,

Rosemary, Alfred, Lis, Daniella, and Alba

Rowe
