About Benjamin Vidmar

Originally from Cleveland, OH USA, and I have completed my Associates in Specialized Tech from Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Pittsburgh, PA in 1998. In 2005 I decided leave the States and move to Sabah, Malaysia in Borneo, to teach English, as well as teaching cooking and working in a restaurant there for 6 months. After that, I worked on expedition cruise ships going to the high Arctic and Antarctic Polar regions and had a fantastic time travelling all over the world.

From 2008, I started to work in Longyearbyen and since 2012, I have been the head chef at Svalbar Pub,AS the "northern most" pub in the world. Being an island, everything has to be flown in, so one day I got the idea to grow my own things and get the freshest products possible. I have designed my own polar hydroponic garden and now I can enjoy the freshest vegetables and herbs without flying everything up like most people do on the island.

Only after I started my garden did I find out about permaculture, so now I am also planning to take my PDC course from 26 August until 8 Sept here:

http://www.wholesystemsdesign.com/permaculture-design-course/

and I am also signed up on 19 September to do the Diploma course after that here:

http://www.gaiauniversity.org/international-diploma-permaculture-design

I am really excited about the future and can totally see how permaculture applies to every aspect of my life. Thanks for your time and have a great day!
