REGISTRATION DEADLINE AUGUST 16- waihuenafarm.com
MISSION- The intention of The Oahu Permaculture Convergence (OPC) is to build the network of diverse, multi-function relationships of recent Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) graduates as well as those with previous PDCs and those who want to learn more about permaculture. We believe Permaculture provides a robust framework to design human settlements that are resilient to the challenges we face today and in the future on Oahu, in Hawaii & throughout the world. By honoring indigenous knowledge and sharing ethics of earth care, people care, fair resource share, we hope to harness our modern creativity to lead to abundance- all the while demonstrating the spirit of ALOHA.
SUMMARY- While PDCs and permaculture convergences have happened around the globe they are new to Oahu. The first five PDCs ever taught on Oahu have all been in recent history- all led by Hunter Heavilin & Matt Lynch. Its time to for new (and old) permies to come together!
The first Oahu Permaculture Convergence (OPC) will take place all day Saturday August 24 on the North Shore at Waihuena Farm, Sunday will be an optional half day for permaculture practice. It will feature a special keynote on climate change, an Oahu resource mapping activity to explore our diverse skills & needs, break out sessions relevant to those new to permaculture, to those practicing as farmers or as activists and moderated open space forums for- whatever.
We hope to continue the tradition of the OPC as there is much to cover beyond this year's sessions! While we can't redesign the world in a day, we can gather to celebrate and share ways we have found to use permaculture design as a tool for problem solving and way of living.
For those joining us for the evening session only, we will have an opportunity to hear short updates from three key sustainable agriculture organizations- Hawaii Organic Farmers Association, Hawaii Farmers Union, and the Hawaii Food Policy Council. We will also enjoy a locally sourced and made organic meal with some fun live music.
The OPC will be an OHANA FRIENDLY, leave no trace camping, goal of zero waste type of event...participants are asked to BYO- contribution to potluck lunch (preferably local and non-gmo), hat, rain jacket or umbrella, chair, water-bottle, plate, utensils, goodies & SEEDS to share (more info to be posted on web), and don't forget to carpool!!

Our intention of hosting this event at Waihuena Farm is to share this magical space with like-minded folks who will be welcomed to engage in this site for the long haul. We have an adventure ahead of us and aspire to one day be a model permaculture site... come join in the fun! -Meleana Judd-Cox, Waihuena Manager, (PDC 2003)
