Vietnam Style
My time in New York City allowed me to utilize the bicycle for a myriad of tasks. More often than not more efficiently than a car would be able to do, I have been trying to use a bicycle for as much as I can here at PRI Zaytuna Farm. Basic transportation around the farm (66acres) and to the shop and back (3km round trip) is a no brainer. But adding a simple plastic basket to the rear rack makes the bicycle exponentially more useful. What would take multiple trips by foot or one petrol/diese powered trip by truck can be made by a bicycle with a sturdy rear rack and basket, milk crate etc. Now you can go a step further and add a trailer and almost eliminate the need for a truck for most daily tasks moving about the farm. Its amazing how much you can transport by bicycle. A basic tool shed trailer that could be towed by bicycle would be an amazing thing. I think the Vietnamese might be some of the best people at gaining the maximum usefulness of any machine. If you have ever seen what they can carry on a little motor bike it would astonish you. A family of 5, a full refrigerator, two full grown pigs, the list goes on. So don't discount the usefulness of the humble bicycle in a world of trucks and tractors.
