Farm Road Stream Crossing references

Posted by Neil Bertrando over 10 years ago

a compilation of references on farm roads focusing on stream crossings

here's what I have so far.  please add or share and suggest references.  Many are for livestock and low water crossings.  I'm still looking for more info on options for vehicles for higher water/year round crossings.  In particular, I'd like to find more info on matching crossing design to Stream Hydrological context (i.e. rosgen channel type, peak flow values, on site uses, vehicle size, budget)  I like the dept. of transportation info due to it's level of design detail, but am hesitant to use it solely based on the amount of degenerative effects on waterways I have seen from road building.

thanks

I'm a big fan of Bill Zeedyk's work "a good road lies easy on the land'.  this is my baseline roads book

http://quiviracoalition.org/images/pdfs/1888-A_Good_Road_Lies_Easy_on_the_Land.pdf

The best addition to this with case studies and design details is the USFS Low water crossings ... book which uses Rosgen's geomorphologic approach http://www.fs.fed.us/eng/pubs/pdf/LowWaterCrossings/LoWholeDoc.pdf

Here's info I've found from the NRCS and local gov't agencies.  all free.
