Kefalonia is thought to be one of the jewels of the Ionian sea and one of the most beautiful islands of Greece. It is the largest of the Ionian group of islands and its capital is Argostoli. Kefalonia is home to numerous natural attractions, from the famous Melissani cave (the beautiful home of the nymphs in Greek Mythology) to its population of endangered loggerhead turtles, which nest at Kaminia beach under the watchful protection of the Sea Turtle Protection society. The island has a mild climate with excellent beaches, diverse and dramatic scenery, wonderful bays and inlets and it is also famous world wide for the its rich historical monuments from the ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian era.
