Some trees will flourish as a pollard, even having a longer lifespan. Pollarding is a form of topping, but when applied to a young tree, will encourage the growth of numerous shoots in place of the one tree trunk. In the case of these poplar trees, seen being pollarded for the first time in the video, a continued harvest of various sized shoots will encourage more growth!
